Philosophy, Cosmology & Consciousness is a unique course of study designed for students who wish to engage the intellectual challenge, in our postmodern age, of exploring and formulating new understandings of the cosmos, society, and the human being.

Program

The Philosophy, Cosmology, and Consciousness concentration is committed to a larger, more encompassing vision of philosophy than has long characterized conventional academic programs. This vision reflects the origins of philosophy in classical antiquity while incorporating contemporary findings from the natural and human sciences. The course of study addresses the complex relations between philosophy, religion, science, and the arts as these converge to shape the worldview of a culture. It encourages students to draw on the insights and perspectives of other eras and cultures, as well as on the most recent evidence and theories emerging from current research.

Areas of inquiry include cosmology, depth psychology, evolutionary science, cultural history, religious studies, and metaphysics, as well as history of ideas, evolution of consciousness, archetypal studies, esoteric thought, mythology, transpersonal theory, new paradigm studies, ecology, feminism, and the changing relationship between science and spirituality.
